Business Operations
See Your Operations More Clearly with The Iris Framework
We provide Business Operations support to help leaders improve workflows, handovers, decision-making, and performance.
Business Operations rarely fail because of one broken process. More often, pressure builds between teams, tools, decisions, and handovers.
The Iris Framework helps leaders see how the system works in practice, so improvement can be targeted with confidence.
The Challenge
The Business Operations Challenge
In many organisations, the biggest risk to Business Operations is not a single broken process. It often comes from the hidden way that work, people, and information move between processes.
On paper, everything may look organised. In reality, small delays, unclear handovers, repeated effort, and missing information build up over time. As a result, deadlines slip, costs rise, and service quality becomes harder to protect.
Decision makers often see symptoms such as slow responses, rising workloads, or inconsistent experiences. However, the causes may sit across teams, tools, and local workarounds.
My work focuses on making that system visible. When leaders can see the whole picture, they can remove the conditions that waste time and effort. They can also create a more reliable experience for the people they serve.
Approach
My Background and Approach to Business Operations
Across my work in Defence, government, and multi-site public sector environments, I have seen how easily operational systems become difficult to follow.
Teams often deliver their part with commitment and skill. However, as processes shift, tools change, and responsibilities grow, the workflow stretches across people, sites, and decisions.
The Iris Framework grew out of this experience. It offers a structured way to look at any operation and understand how purpose, design, pathways, collaboration, capability, and environment interact.

The Iris Framework
How The Iris Framework Supports Business Operations
The Iris Framework was created to help organisations understand how their learning systems operate. However, the same whole-system principles apply to Business Operations.
Instead of examining courses or learning journeys, we use the Iris perspective to evaluate services, workflows, handovers, decisions, and delivery systems.
Clarifies why the operation exists, what it aims to achieve, and how success is recognised.
Explores how work is organised, how steps connect, and whether the process supports delivery.
Looks at how work, information, and decisions move from beginning to end.
Reviews roles, ownership, communication, and how issues are resolved across boundaries.
Considers whether people have the skill, support, confidence, and capacity to meet demand.
Tests whether the environment supports performance or quietly creates friction.
